It’s time for another Lord’s Day Recap where we recap either something that happened at my home church, The Way Church, or respond to something significant that shocked Christians online. (Or maybe both? Time will tell.)
This Sunday was the first Sunday of 2024. It’s the perfect time to start things off the right way (with the Lord and His people). I looked at this as an opportunity to get in a new habit, to start attending church as a family. Many consider this time a chance to set new goals and aspirations for the new year. I assumed there’d be a few that would say, “Let’s make church a priority for our family this year.“
But boy was I wrong. What I experienced was the opposite – more shallow, self-proclaimed “Christians” looking for every opportunity to instead take a day for themselves. Because that’s exactly what our culture worships: self.
Of course, I’m not discouraged. I’m convinced God is up to something. I just don’t think we’ll see it this year in a way that I was hoping. Instead of sparking a flame of renewal among His people, I think God’s leading us into a season where it’s going to be harder to straddle the fence. We’ll need to pick a side. We’ll need to choose. Casual Christianity is dead and I’m here for it. (Praise God!)
That’s what I saw. What did you see this Lord’s Day? Leave it in the comments below.
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.
Ephesians 5:22-23 (ESV)
Also, before I forget, yesterday we worked through Ephesians 5:21-33 and I was able to preach on the subject of marriage working through the various roles of men and women. If you missed out, I encourage you to catch it here and let me know what you think about this controversial topic.
